The mineral calcium (lime), gives strength to the backbone. Also, calcium is necessary for the proper functioning of the muscles, and for guiding impulses to the nerves. Calcium is also among others involved in blood clotting, cell growth and hormone metabolism. It is an essential substance for the preservation of the skeleton but also plays a role in the nerve and muscle functions.
Osteoporosis occurs when bones absorb too much calcium (lime). There should be a constant balance between production and breakdown of bones. When bone loss (osteoporosis), the degradation is stronger than the production. When bone loss (osteoporosis), the bones become more brittle.
When osteoporosis can occur?
Osteoporosis can occur under various conditions. The most important are the following. Older age of the bird, too little exercise, not a free flight, but stay in breeding cages, movement stimulates botopbouwen, too little vitamin D, vitamin D causes bone calcium record. It is created under the influence of sunlight on the skin. If the birds are rare in the atmosphere, the likelihood of a vitamin D deficiency increases.
Calcium carbonate provides for an increase in the amount of calcium (calcium) in the blood. This results in more calcium available for continuous bone. The combination of calcium carbonate and vitamin D 3 is particularly suitable for birds that are rare in the outside air and thereby create self little vitamin D3 under the influence of sunlight. The combination of calcium carbonate, colecalciferol and phytomenadione is used in Avian Vita ~ Calc. Calcium carbonate is an important building block of bones. Colecalciferol, either vitamin D, allows for the absorption of calcium and phosphate from the diet and phylloquinone, either vitamin K1, plays a role in the production of bone.
Administration: Mix 1% (10g p / kg) through your diet.
Remember, Vita ~ Calc is not water soluble.
